Hello, friends, Derek Ferreira here with you as I review the finals of the first ever Cruiserweight Classic.
CWC Semifinal Match-Gran Metalik Defeats Zack Sabre Jr (****): This was an excellent way to start off the show, as this match was similar to the match that ZSJ had with Ricochet aka Prince Puma this past weekend at an Evolve show in NYC. Both guys were protected, but I felt that the star of the match was Metalik.
CWC Semifinal Match-TJ Perkins Defeats Kota Ibushi (****1/2): This to me was the match of the night, with Ibushi's neck injury the main story, and the fact that TJP was busting his neck to win this match. As an old Luchador from the WCW days in Juventud Guerrera once quoted, both had that "never say die" attitude. In the end, TJP survived Ibushi's strikes but had to overcome adversity to defeat one of the top cruiserweights in the world. Don't get me wrong; Ibushi was the MVP of this tournament and TJP came out of this match looking like a million bucks.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa Defeats Cedric Alexander and Nam Dar (***): This was a fun match that the crowd enjoyed, but it was sloppy at times. However, still, a good match to watch.
CWC Finals-TJ Perkins Defeats Gran Metalik: Now before the match even started, the stakes got even higher with Triple H coming out and introducing a new WWE Cruiserweight Championship. As far as the match goes, this was a very good finals match, where both guys came off as big players, and they delivered a top notch fight.
Overall Review: I don't normally do this, but we just saw the wrestling show of 2016. The perfect way to end what was an amazing ten weeks of cruiserweight matches, with my only lowlight is that this tournament is over. And all the wrestling marks out there; this is why I love professional wrestling and not the sports entertainment aspect of it. 10/10
