Colombia vs. Chile Preview & Prediction

Colombia and Chile will face off in one of the most important games on matchday 11 of the 2018 South American FIFA World Cup qualifiers this Thursday night. 1 point separates both sides with Colombia sitting at fourth place in the table with 17 points and Chile at fifth place with 16 points.

The Colombians were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Uruguay in matchday ten before defeating Paraguay 1-0 on the road. They were defeated just once at home in qualification, and that was in a game by a high-flying Brazil on matchday 8.

Chile’s inconsistencies continued over the last two fixtures, as they started off with a massive 3-0 defeat at Ecuador, but got a bounce back victory against Peru. They have won in two and lost three of their five away games in the qualifying thus far. Right now, they are on a two-match losing on the road. Also, they are the only side that gives up goals heavily on the road with 12 goals given up, in which the only two teams given up the most goals in qualification are Venezuela and Bolivia, and they sit in the bottom of the table.

Prediction: Colombia is performing well at home as they have won three, drawn one and lost one. Columbia has also kept three clean sheets during that period. Meanwhile, Chile tends to flop against disciplined teams on the road. The only positive momentum for Chile at the moment is their head-to-head record against Colombia. However, both managers goal is to avoid a defeat rather than looking for a win. Because of the critical significance of this match due to positions at the edge of the qualification zone. Whoever loses this game on Thursday will go into the next round with numerous amount of pressure. While the winner can move close to Uruguay, who holds second place in the table. Due to the above reasoning in this post, this fixture between Colombia and Chile is more likely to end in a draw.
